11/24/13. Naughty or Nice Wish List
11/13/13. warm & cozy
These warm & cozy slippers are one of our favourite items to have during the winter months. There are lots of great reasons to add these to your Christmas wish list! Padriag Cottage slippers are handmade in Canada using pure wool, sheepskin & leather. Their website says that they have heard rumours of people oversizing their rubber boots so that they can wear their beloved slippers all day!
Here is their story: ”Helen made her first pair of slippers for her young son in the winter of 1977, they had a hand cut sheepskin sole and a crocheted upper made with hand spun raw wool, in a few years they would become known as the Original Padraig Slipper. Since Helen started selling her wears at local craft markets, the slipper line and the company have grown and evolved. The slippers now come in numerous colour ways and styles and are sold in boutiques across Canada, the United States and Europe.
Though our company has expanded, employing more than thirty local artisans and support staff, we are still independently owned and operated and our premises remain in North Vancouver, ensuring product quality and support of the local community. The slippers too remain largely the same; they are still hand crocheted and hand dyed in small lots, insuring each pair is one of a kind.”
Our tagline reads, Return Home, we chose this to remind ourselves of what is important and the core values that are at the heart of Padraig Cottage Ind.
To produce original quality products made by skilled artisans, using
natural materials while accepting the importance of both the community
and the environment.Padraig’s Mission Statement

08/02/13. hot on hereford 2013
In the month of June, Twang & Pearl celebrated the 2nd annual Hot on Hereford Summer Makeover, Soirée & fashion show. This fun event was held in conjunction with Evolve Studios & with great support from Salt Spring Vineyards.
This year the event fundraised for a very local cause ~ the Young Designers Scholarship Fund. The scholarship has been created with the idea of supporting Salt Spring youth and will be awarded to graduating student of the 2014 class who is interested in pursuing a career in beauty, fashion or home decor. We really hope to grow this scholarship fund and continue with it year after year.
Throughout the month of May & June, Twang & Pearl with Evolve Studios accepted nominations for a lovely Salt Spring woman who deserved to be treated to a Hot on Hereford Spring Makeover. A “Hot on Hereford” makeover includes hair styling & make up by Evolve Studios, outfitting at Twang & Pearl plus hair & nails done by Esthetics by Penny. We had many great applications, but one stood out among all others!
Our very honoured winner was Sandy Gueddes, who was nominated by our friend Kelda Logan. Sandy was the most fabulous, gracious & deserving winner of our makeover. If you are lucky enough to meet her, you can ask her about her story which is filled with love, gratitude & amazing moments but also with sadness. It was amazing both to get to meet Sandy & treat Sandy!
Pictured above are Sandy’s before & after shots, a picture of Erin from Evolve during the make over stage & the nervous (pre fashion show) Sandy with her friends.
The evening of our event, we were all set up at Twang & Pearl for our Soiree! The friendly greeting at the door was by both Bonnie & Penny who were bindi -izing everyone & Hannah who was photographing & signing up guests to a part of our Twangy Nation. Heidi from Salt Spring Vineyards generously provided wine tastings, we had delicious little cupcakes by Christine of Dinner’s Ready & an amazing line up of door prizes from all of our amazing supporters: Mia Melon, Evolve Studios, Cafe Talia, la pistole, Rock Salt Restaurant & Cafe, Ganges Yoga Studio, Smart Cookie, Bug by Sean Goddard, Yoga Jeans & a gift certificate for Esthetics by Penny. Thank you to all!
During our fashion show we featured our winner, Sandy, followed by a great line up of summer outfits to themes such as “look for the office”, ”weekend get away”, “beach babe”, “cocktail party”, “summer bbq” & “the festival” look. Our three models were absolutely fabulous; Kelda Logan, Linda Underwood & Kat. The organizer of the fashion was the talented Heather Fox!
Overall, our evening was a great success & a great time was had by all! We love our friends, customers & neighbours that came out to help make the evening a smashing success! Cheers to next year……see you there.
